Semirara Mining a finalist in Platts energy awards
SEMIRARA Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) has been named a finalist in the Platts Global Energy Awards, described as the “Oscars” of the energy industry.
The award is an annual program of Platts, a leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals, metals and agriculture information, to recognize exemplary industry leadership and innovation.
The 2015 finalists were chosen from nearly 200 nominees from nearly three dozen nominating countries and representing four continents.
SMPC was recognized for its 5Es Program under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category.
The 5Es Program aims to reduce poverty and facilitate development in SMPC’s host community using a sustained, holistic approach.
The program includes projects and initiatives that address education and training, environmental stewardship, employment and livelihood, electrification and basic infrastructure, and emergency preparedness.
Established in 1999, the Platts Global Energy Awards highlight corporate and individual innovation, leadership and performance excellence in 17 categories spanning the energy complex.
“The 5Es program has transformed a once impoverished, far-flung island in Antique into a first-class municipality that has high-value employment, reliable electricity, potable water, well-maintained schools, improved infrastructure and thriving local economy for its residents,” said SMPC.
Hundreds of energy industry representatives are expected to attend the 2015 Platts Global Energy Awards black-tie dinner gala in New York City on December 9. The awards program will be emceed by CNBC news anchor Amanda Drury for a sixth consecutive year.
Preceding the awards program, finalists and other industry executives will take part in the Platts Global Energy Outlook Forum, a platform for exploration and debate of industry-critical issues by energy executives, government officials and academics.
Founded in 1909, Platts is the commodities information arm of McGraw Hill Financial and a premier source of benchmark price references, with news, data and information coverage spanning biofuels, carbon emissions, coal, electricity, oil, natural gas, metals, nuclear power, petrochemicals, shipping, sugar, grains and other agriculture products used in making ethanol and other biofuels.
